Tutorials

The tutorials listed below are on-line versions of the notes/manuals used on the bioinformatics training courses run by the CBRG.

Course Manuals:

Introduction to Staden, pregap4 and gap4
The Staden package of programs are used for the interpretation, screening and assembly of sequence trace files and the management of large-scale sequencing projects. The Introduction to Staden training course was last held on Friday 12th January, 2007.

Introduction to Phylogeny
The Introduction to Phylogeny course was originally held on Thursday 26 January, 2006.

  • interactive tutorial  Please note: a CBRG molbiol account is required in order to run the analysis tools suggested throughout the tutorial

Introduction to Protein Modelling
This tutorial was written by Paola Bignone and teaches new users how to do basic protein modelling interactively via a variety of web sites.

  • Follow this link to start. Please note: a CBRG molbiol account is required in order to run the analysis tools suggested throughout the tutorial

STARS
STARS is an alternative interface to Staden for sequence assembly during sequence typing projects. The STARS course was last held on Friday 15th June, 2005.

OUBC Course Notes:

Oxford University Bioinformatics Centre (OUBC) was the fore-runner of the CBRG. The following notes were used on courses run by the OUBC prior to 2004. Much of the information contained within remains relevant today and so has been reproduced here:
